Creating magic by transforming reclaimed materials into runway-ready designs. This volunteer-run Fashion Trashion Witch Walk celebrates sustainability, creativity, movement, and joyful community. Local designers will transform upcycled fabric scraps into original wearable pieces, modeled by members of the OV Sea Hags. We’ll also have a silent auction with 100% proceeds going to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Event Host & Emcee
We are honored to welcome Ann Ward Leister as the host and emcee for the Earth Day Fashion Trashion Runway. As the founder and organizer of VA Fashion Week, she has helped spotlight regional designers, models, and creative talent while bringing elevated runway experiences to Hampton Roads. With her dynamic stage presence and natural ability to connect with an audience, Ann will lead us through the evening’s presentations, performances, and judging. Her enthusiasm, industry expertise, and professionalism ensure a seamless and spirited celebration of local creativity.
RON COOKE
Director of Judging ⭐
Ron will serve as Director of Judging for the Earth Day Fashion Trashion Runway, guiding the judging panel and helping establish the criteria used to evaluate each design. His industry perspective ensures the competition highlights creativity, craftsmanship, and innovative use of materials.
A veteran fashion producer, coordinator, and celebrity stylist, Ron is a prominent figure in the Virginia fashion industry. He is the co-founder of Men’s Fashion Week Virginia, to showcase emerging menswear designers from Virginia, New York, and Washington, D.C., and has been a core member of the Virginia Fashion Week team since its inception alongside director Ann Leister.
Through his production company, Rogue Productions, Ron has helped produce fashion shows in major markets including New York, Miami, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. He has also styled high-profile figures such as Alicia Keys and Danny Glover for commercial and editorial projects. His work elevateS regional fashion productions while creating platforms for emerging designers.

Komal Smruti
Komal Smruti, based in the Hampton Roads area, is a multidisciplinary creative whose work blends acting, modeling, cosplay, and sewing into a dynamic form of self-expression. With over 12 years of experience designing and constructing her own costumes, she has developed a strong eye for character-driven design, bringing imaginative worlds to life through detailed, handcrafted pieces. Her work is deeply inspired by science fiction and comic book universes, where storytelling, transformation, and visual impact take center stage. While this marks her first time designing for others, her extensive personal experience in cosplay reflects a passion for embodying characters and pushing creative boundaries through costume. Staci M. Murawski
Staci M. Murawski of Norfolk, VA is a seasoned multidisciplinary artist and designer with over 30 years of experience across theater and film, working as an actress, director, producer, costume designer, wardrobe specialist, prop designer, and artistic director. Her work spans historical costuming, textile design, and visual art, with a strong focus on living history, historical reconstruction, forensic garment analysis, and character creation through clothing. She frequently collaborates with portrait and visual artists to bring historically inspired figures to life, drawing deep inspiration from historic fashion, textiles, nature, and the evolution of women’s clothing. Fascinated by the stories garments carry, Staci explores how people expressed identity through dress across time, often transforming discarded or unexpected materials into renewed, meaningful wearable art. Mermaidazzle
Mermaidazzle, based in Chesapeake, is a self-taught artist who began in fine art with drawing and painting before expanding into the world of fantasy costuming. Now a full-time creator, she runs a successful Etsy shop where she brings imaginative designs to life, originally gaining recognition for her signature mermaid crowns and growing her collection to include mermaid bras, dresses, and a wide range of fantasy and cosplay pieces inspired by characters like the Snow Queen, Queen of Hearts, and Poison Ivy. Her work is fueled by a love of the sea, shimmering details, and a touch of the dark and mysterious—fitting for someone whose birthday falls on Halloween—blending natural beauty with a hint of the eerie. Originally from California, she made the bold move to Virginia after being inspired by the area’s “Mermaid City” reputation, building a new life and creative home with her husband. Sonya Z. Phillips
Sonya Z. Phillips of Virginia Beach, known as Sustainability-T, is a self-taught fashion designer with over 30 years of experience creating bold, expressive, and environmentally conscious designs. Specializing in sustainable fashion, she brings versatility to her work, crafting everything from exotic dancewear to praise dance garments, with a strong passion for costuming and transforming discarded materials into wearable “Trashion” art. Her creative inspiration draws from a wide range of sources, including food, music, personal life experiences, and social justice, all of which influence her distinctive and meaningful designs. Having attended a different school nearly every year and studied abroad in Mexico and Costa Rica, Sonya brings a uniquely diverse perspective to her work. Gin German
Gin German is a Norfolk-based creative whose work spans a wide range of artistic outlets, from sewing and styling to set design, photography, stained glass, and 3D design, often exploring multiple interests at once with an enthusiastic, self-taught approach. A hobbyist sewer for the past two years, Gin draws strong inspiration from the bold, expressive world of drag performance, where fashion becomes a form of storytelling that can be whimsical, avant-garde, and deeply personal. Their creative vision is fueled by anything that sparks joy, with influences ranging from nature, like flowers and insects, to literature, pop culture, historical figures, contemporary designers, and imaginative characters developed through role-playing games. Off the runway, Gin shares life with their beloved and memorably named sixteen-year-old tabby cat, Gatsby Grendel Tuscaloosa Alabama Bazooka Joe German, and occasionally posts creative work on Instagram at @blueruinrelics.

Lauriana Cohen
Lauriana Archibold Cohen, is a Virginia-based fiber artist, designer, and educator whose work blends textiles, storytelling, and sustainability. With an M.F.A. in Visual Arts from a joint program between Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University, she teaches fashion design students and shares her expertise in fiber arts, including crochet and textile construction. Her work is rooted in environmental ethics, transforming traditional techniques into expressive pieces that highlight both craftsmanship and sustainability. Active in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach arts communities, she has participated in local events and previously brought her creative vision to the Fashion Trashion runway as a designer in 2016. She’s collaborating on her design with Lyman Speckheuer, a University of Texas at Austin graduate with over 35 years of experience in art restoration, and enjoys stepping into the creative side of the art world through their work together.

Brenda Mihalko
Brenda Mihalko of Virginia Beach, creator of Odd Bird Originals, is a graphic artist by trade whose creative reach extends far beyond print into a wide range of hands-on artistic pursuits. As a passionate hobbyist, she explores everything from photography and jewelry design to mixed media and upcycled furniture, bringing a playful and experimental spirit to all she creates. While self-taught and relatively new to clothing design, Brenda approaches fashion with the same lifelong instinct to make and transform, inspired deeply by music, theater, and the bold expression of drag culture. Known for her ever-growing collection of art supplies, she embraces creativity in all its forms, constantly finding new ways to turn imagination into something tangible.

Robyn Lilly
Robyn Kiera Lilly, originally from Cleveland, Ohio and now based in Norfolk, is a fashion designer with over 12 years of experience and a background in fashion design from Kent State University. Her work is deeply inspired by culture, history, and media, with each design serving as a form of expression—pieces she describes as having their own voice that speaks directly to the audience. Robyn brings both creativity and personality to her work, balancing thoughtful design with a love for making people laugh. She also studied abroad in Florence, Italy, further shaping her artistic perspective. Her work can be followed on Instagram at @bellacioccolata.

Mary Morton
Mary Morton, based in Norfolk and originally from Lexington, Kentucky, is a lifelong creative with a deep passion for sewing and crafting. She began designing nine years ago while in college, building on skills she has nurtured since childhood. While she enjoys exploring many forms of creative expression, sewing remains her strongest and most enduring focus. Her designs are inspired by life experiences and the natural world, reflecting a personal and thoughtful approach to her work. In addition to designing, Mary began modeling after moving to Norfolk, adding another dimension to her creative journey. Her work can be followed on Instagram at @_love_pisces.

Willie Hall
Willie Hall is an innovative fashion designer whose work blends faith, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose. Her professional experience includes working alongside designer Andre Van Pier and spending over nine seasons behind the scenes with IMG PR, as well as contributing to events such as Project Runway Season 2 with the PR team. Her designs have been featured in publications including Versus VA, Heart & Soul, and Grace Today. Known for creating simple yet elegant pieces, Willie specializes in styling professional women with looks that transition seamlessly from work to evening, empowering them to feel confident, stylish, and expressive. Guided by her belief that “designers are born, not made,” she continues to push the boundaries of her God-given talent through every collection.

Norfolk Collegiate Costume and Fashion Design
The Norfolk Collegiate Costume and Fashion Design Students, based in Norfolk, VA, represent a dynamic new class formed this year in response to student interest in sewing and the growing need for costumes in school productions. Comprised of 14 talented young women with diverse interests ranging from sports and theatre to fashion and hands-on making, many entered the program with little to no prior experience and have since developed foundational skills in sewing, pattern use, and hand construction. Their work centers around sustainability, with a strong focus on repurposing materials—experimenting with techniques like fusing and sewing plastic bags—while exclusively using thrifted or donated supplies and equipment. This collaborative and exploratory environment highlights creativity, resourcefulness, and the power of learning by doing, with their work featured through Norfolk Collegiate’s social media channels.
The Norfolk Collegiate team will design TWO costumes, including one for the OV Sea Hag wizard!

Our runway models are the OV Sea Hags — an Ocean View amatuer dance troupe that celebrates creativity, joy, and community. For this special Earth Day runway, they step into character to bring each designer’s upcycled creation to life.

JUDY BOONE 🌊
Founder & President, Judy Boone Realty
Judy is the founder and president of Judy Boone Realty and a longtime leader in the Hampton Roads real estate community. Born and raised in Ocean View, Judy has spent her career helping families and businesses find their place in the region while playing an important role in the growth and revitalization of the Ocean View area.
Through decades of experience in real estate, Judy has developed a strong eye for design, presentation, and visual impact. From staging homes to recognizing thoughtful architecture and interior details, she understands how creativity, balance, and craftsmanship come together to create spaces that truly stand out.
Judy brings that same appreciation for design and community pride to the judging panel, where she will help celebrate the designers transforming reclaimed materials into imaginative wearable art for the Earth Day Fashion Trashion Runway.

CHRISTY FREDERICK ✂️
Professor Fashion Design, NSU
Christy is a fashion educator and creative professional with Norfolk State University’s Fashion Program, where she mentors emerging designers and helps guide students as they develop their creative voice and technical skills in fashion design.
Christy also brings firsthand experience with the Fashion Trashion concept, having won first place in the 2016 Fashion Trashion competition for her innovative design created from reclaimed materials. Her work demonstrated how creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability can come together to transform discarded materials into striking wearable art.
With her background in fashion education and design, Christy brings both technical expertise and creative insight to the judging panel. She is excited to help celebrate designers who are reimagining fabric scraps and reclaimed materials into original runway creations for this Earth Day event.

CHERYL HAHN 🌿
Founder & President, CozyPure
Cheryl is the founder and president of CozyPure, a Norfolk-based organic mattress and bedding company known for its commitment to natural materials, responsible manufacturing, and long-lasting design. A pioneer in the early green living movement, Cheryl has spent more than three decades creating products that prioritize sustainability, comfort, and environmental responsibility.
An Ocean View resident for over 30 years, Cheryl is also the designer behind the CozyPure fabrics featured in this year’s Earth Day Fashion Trashion Runway. The fashion show creations are crafted from remnants of these fabrics, transforming textile scraps into one-of-a-kind runway pieces that celebrate creativity, sustainability, and local craftsmanship.
Her passion for sustainable design and community collaboration inspired the vision behind this Earth Day event, bringing together local creatives to showcase how discarded materials can be upcycled and reimagined as art.

TORI J JONES 👠
Coastal Virginia Fashionista
Tori is a Virginia fashion stylist, educator, and community leader with a passion for both style and social impact. She serves as a Community Engagement Manager in the Hampton Roads region, where she leads volunteer initiatives, community events, and partnerships with nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies, with a focus on ending human trafficking.
With a background in event planning, retail buying and management, fashion consulting, and collegiate teaching, Tori brings decades of industry experience to her work. She holds multiple degrees in Fashion Marketing and works as an independent personal stylist and TV wardrobe stylist, with a specialty in her signature “wardrobe remix” approach—helping clients restyle what they already own to save money and support sustainability.
A Texas native, she has called Hampton Roads home for more than 30 years.

JENNIFER LEISTER ✨
Associate Producer, VA Fashion Week
Jennifer Leister serves as Associate Producer and has been assisting with fashion shows and runway productions for more than fourteen years. For the past eight years, she has worked independently as a producer, stage manager, and stylist, helping bring creative visions to life both behind the scenes and on the runway.
A graduate of The College of William & Mary, Jennifer has extensive experience supporting designers through every stage of production, from fittings and backstage coordination to dressers and runway logistics. Her calm professionalism and attention to detail help ensure that each event runs smoothly for designers, models, and production teams alike.
In addition to her work in fashion production, Jennifer is a contributing writer for several blogs and media publications, as well as a speechwriter and social media specialist. She has also worked as a political staffer and is known for her dedication to helping clients promote their brand and tell their story.

TOMMY SMIGIEL 🏛
Norfolk City Councilman, Ocean View
Tommy serves on the Norfolk City Council representing the Ocean View district while also serving as principal of Granby High School. A lifelong Norfolk resident raised in the Ocean View and Bayview communities, he remains deeply committed to strengthening local neighborhoods, supporting students, and building strong community connections.
Before entering public office, Mr. Smigiel built a distinguished career in education with Norfolk Public Schools. His dedication to student success earned him recognition as the 2007 Norfolk Teacher of the Year and the 2008 Virginia Teacher of the Year, and he was later selected as one of four finalists for National Teacher of the Year, placing him among the nation’s most respected educators.
Mr. Smigiel is also a strong advocate for environmental stewardship and community green spaces. He played an early and active role in helping bring Bay Oaks Park to life in Ocean View, working with community members and supporters to secure funding and support for the park’s development. Today, he continues to champion initiatives that enhance quality of life for Norfolk residents.

Ann Leister is the owner and director of Splash Model Management and has produced or co-produced muliple fashion shows. In addition, she has cast actors and models in regional and national commercials, TV shows, magazines and ad campaigns as well as placed models with agencies in major markets. She has a BA from The College of William & Mary and experience in real estate, advertising, human resources, video production, and the arts. She’s also a published author with books available on Amazon. Ann regularly attends fashion events in New York including Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, as well as shows in Washington DC, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Miami, Ann created the concept that has become VA Fashion Week as a way to bring NY style fashion shows to the Hampton Roads area and to spotlight the design talent, models, and creative talent that call this region home.
