OUR STORY
The OV Sea Hags began with an idea from founder Cheryl Hahn: bring a little unexpected joy to Ocean View through music, movement, and a bunch of women dancing with brooms. Inspired by the German Wolfshäger Hexenbrut broom dance tradition, Cheryl first shared the idea with her friend Jennifer Newby, who enthusiastically said yes. From there, the call was put out, a place to practice was found, and on October 7, 2025, six adventurous women showed up for the very first OV Sea Hags practice.
By the following week, six had become ten, and they took part in our first Ocean View Witch Walk, ending the evening with the broom dance at Greenie’s Graveyard (credit to Jennifer for that name). People watched, smiled, took videos, and wanted to know who these dancing witches were. Over the months that followed, the OV Sea Hags began dancing at community events throughout Coastal Virginia, using a little music, movement, and witchy fun to support local businesses, charities, and community causes. Today, the OV Sea Hags are the first and only Coastal Virginia group officially recognized as an affiliate of the original Wolfshäger Hexenbrut in Germany.
The OV Sea Hags are an amateur performance group made up of women who come together to dance, laugh, and bring a little happiness wherever we go. What hasn’t changed since those first six women picked up their brooms is bringing people together and casting a little uncomplicated joy into the world.

About the Original Wolfshäger Hexenbrut
The Wolfshäger Hexenbrut (“Witches of Wolfshagen”) originated in the Harz Mountains of Germany, a region steeped in folklore and ancient Walpurgis Night traditions. In 2014, a small group of local women created a joyful “witches’ broom dance” to celebrate community and self-expression. The performance went viral after a video of their dance—set to Schüttel deinen Speck (“Shake Your Bacon”)—captivated millions worldwide.
What began as a lighthearted local performance has since grown into a global sisterhood, inspiring hundreds of affiliated witch-dance troupes around the world, all united by laughter, empowerment, and the shared magic of movement and spreading joy.
