Ocean View Witch Walk: 250 Years of Legends and Lore

Something wickedly wonderful is coming to Ocean View…

This October, follow the OV Sea Hags on a journey through 250 years of Ocean View legends, lore and unforgettable history as the past comes alive along the Chesapeake Bay.

Created especially for Norfolk’s 250th anniversary, **Ocean View Witch Walk: 250 Years of Legends & Lore** is an original twilight procession bringing together witches, music, local history, coastal folklore, and a little Sea Hag magic for one wickedly fun evening.

And this isn’t a witch walk you have to watch from the sidelines. Come dressed in your witchy best and walk and dance alongside us!

 

As the sun begins to set, the OV Sea Hags will take to the Ocean View boardwalk for a journey through **250 years of legends and lore**. Walk with the witches as stories from Ocean View’s remarkable past unfold through narration, music, movement, and a little theatrical flair along the way.

Feel the fury of the Great Tempest that helped create Willoughby Spit.

Discover the story of Virginia’s legendary “Witch of Pungo,” Grace Sherwood.

Remember 87 freedom seekers who made a daring escape toward British ships in the Chesapeake Bay in 1776.

Hear tales of the legends and ghosts woven into Ocean View lore.

Travel through generations of storms, music, landmarks, amusement, and memories that helped shape the Ocean View we know today.

But don’t expect an ordinary history lesson. Along the witch walk, moments from the past will be paired with short bursts of music and movement, from “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “Riders on the Storm” to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Ghostbusters,” and more. And when our journey through 250 years reaches the present day, follow the witches for a spirited finale featuring the signature German Witch Broom Dance.

And you might just get a chance to dance with the witches yourself, so bring your broom to join in the fun.

This isn’t a history lecture.

It’s a witch walk through Ocean View’s history, where the stories travel with us.
