FAQs

A few questions you may have that we hope to answer here. If not send us a message with your registration email in the form above!

Are Teams Allowed?

Yes. You may participate solo or as a small team with up to 3 people. Keep in mind teams and solo designers operate with distinct advantages and disadvantages, with teams offering higher capacity, specialization, and consistency, while solo designers provide agility and total creative control.

Important:
• One person should be the primary registrant
• Team members do not need to register separately
• Please list team member names in the registration comments so they also get credit for the design

What supplies or materials are we allowed to use?

We will supply the main component which is fabric scraps provided by CozyPure which is primarily an assorted mixture of organic cotton knits and wovens with a mix of wool quilting, wool batting, and maybe even shipping supplies (nylon bags, strapping, etc). Embellishments are allowed in moderation such as buttons, zippers, sequins, dyes, keeping in mind that final judging is based on the “re-use” of the scraps into wearable designs! You will be responsible for any materials that are not included with the provided scraps.

When do I meet my model and get the fabric scraps?

As of now, we have a tentative date for Sunday, February 22nd. Time and location TBD. You’ll pickup your bag of materials and pull names from a hat for your model. Bring a tape measure if you wish to take measurements. You and your model will work together privately to discuss if another meeting should happen for a fitting before the runway show on April 19th. This timeline will give you apoximately 2 months to create your design.

Why is there a registration fee?

We decided to charge a small fee so there is a level of commitment from the registrant. These fees will be pooled together and all monies will be distributed back to the winners as a cash prize reward. This event is organized entirely by volunteers who get no compensation.

Is there a cut-off date or limited number of entries?

Yes. We only need designers for the runway modeled by the OV Sea Hags troupe who agreed to participate. Once that number of registrations is met, we’ll stop entries. If the event is canceled, or if for any other reason you are not able to create a design through no fault of your own, your registration fee will be fully returned to you.

Is this open to all levels of experience?

Absolutely! All levels welcome. Beginners, hobbyists, students, and professional designers are encouraged to participate. Beginners are especially welcome. This is a supportive, inspirational environment meant to celebrate creativity, not perfection. For professional designers, the challenge lies in the material constraints. Working with reclaimed and limited fabrics often pushes creativity in unexpected directions and invites exploration beyond traditional design processes.

How long will I have to create the design?

As of now, we have the afternoon of February 22nd as the date to pickup your scrap materials and meet your model. Then you have until the day of the event, April 19th, to complete the runway look. Basically two months from start to finish. You’ll use your own home / studio and equipment to design, sew, embellish, etc.
